District students tour Historically Black Colleges and Universities, scholarships awarded

Students from four of Osseo Area Schools’ senior high schools came together for a weeklong tour of several Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) at the end of March. The tour was sponsored by the district’s Excellence in Equity team.
The experience offered the opportunity for participating students to engage deeply with the rich history, legacy and impacts of HBCUs, where they learned why these institutions were founded and how they continue to serve as pillars of opportunity and excellence.
“One of the most powerful aspects of the experience was the opportunity for scholars from all four Osseo Area high schools to connect, build relationships, and grow together,” said Mercedes Henderson Clark, Excellence in Equity coordinator. “The bonds formed throughout the week reflect the strength and unity of our district and underscore the importance of shared experiences in shaping students’ academic and personal journeys.”
Seven district students on the tour were admitted to HBCUs and were collectively awarded scholarships totaling over $100,000.
“This achievement is a testament to their hard work, potential and the power of intentional exposure to opportunity,” Henderson Clark added.
